AI concerns rise as UK opens investigation around generative AI

The UK government has tasked regulators, including the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), to review the impact of AI on consumers, businesses and the economy. The investigation will evaluate the creation and distribution of AI technology and study how it impacts consumer protection in five major areas: transparency and explainability, accountability and governance, safety and security, fairness, and contestability and redress. The review aims to ensure open, competitive markets and effective consumer protection while allowing access to the potential benefits of transformative technology.
